Types of Membership

(i) Open to individuals, 21 years and above, who have a reasonable track record of trading in the field of diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones, pearls or precious metal jewellery as wholesalers, dealers, polishers, manufacturers, retailers, brokers, designers, gemologists, etc.
(ii) Individual Membership is considered a full trading membership and application requires support of a proposer and a seconder from amongst our members.

(i) Open to duly registered/incorporated bodies engaged in services and activities of a supportive or ancillary nature to our trade. (e.g.: logistics, banking, insurance, exhibitions etc.)
(ii) Corporate members are entitled to the same rights and privileges as Individual Members, except trading and voting rights. They can participate in all activities and meetings organised by the DES. Companies directly engaged in the diamond and jewellery trade are not eligible for corporate membership.

Our Legacy
The Diamond Exchange of Singapore (DES), Asia’s first diamond exchange, was formed and registered in 1976 as the Diamond Importers’ Association of Singapore (DIAS). The founding members consisted of a group of dedicated Singapore diamantaires who recognised the need for an organisation to represent, moderate and promote their trade.
1976-1979
Formed as the Diamond Importers Association of Singapore (DIAS).
Organised first jewellery design competition and trade show, Jeweltime the first event of its kind in Asia.
1980
Accepted as a full member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB).
1984
Re-branded as the Diamond Exchange of Singapore (DES) and developed new rules and by-laws.
1988
Hosted the WFDB 24th World Diamond Congress. A general body gathering attended by 600 delegates from 16 countries
1997
Hosted the WFDB and IDMA Presidents’ Meeting – a bi-annual event
2002
Celebrated DES’ 25th anniversary
2014
Hosted the WFDB Asia-Pacific Presidents Summit, an annual gathering of Asia-Pacific bourse presidents
2025
Granted the opportunity to host WFDB & IDMA World Diamond Congress in July 2026 in Singapore.
