SG60 – Celebrating the facets of Singapore - Jewellery Design Competition:

Rules & Regulations:

1. Eligibility

1.1. Open to All Designers: The competition is open to professional and amateur jewellery designers as well as design students resident in all countries of the world.

1.2. Age Requirement: Participants must be 18 years or older on the submission closing date to enter the competition.

2. Submission Guidelines

2.1. Design Submission Requirements

Submissions must include digital sketches/renderings of the proposed design. Hand-drawn sketches are also acceptable.

  • Design Explanation: A written brief outlining the concept of the design and how it relates to the theme “SG60 – Celebrating the facets of Singapore,”

  • Material Details: Participants must include a list of materials they intend to use such as – precious metals, natural diamonds or other precious stones or semi-precious stones.

  • Size and Format: Sketches must be in JPEG, JPG or PDF format with a minimum resolution of 300dpi. The file size should not exceed 5MB.

  • Restricted to a maximum of two (2) submissions per participant.

2.2. Design Specifications:

  • The manufacturing cost of the design must not exceed an approximate retail price of S$30,000 (or US$ 23,000)

2.3. Language: All submissions must be in English.


3. Submission Deadline

3.1. Opening Date: Submissions open on April 14, 2025.

3.2. Closing Date: All submissions must be received by June 30, 2025 (23:59 Singapore Time). Late submissions will not be considered.

3.3. Submission Process: Entries must be submitted online through the official competition website. A submission confirmation email will be sent upon successful receipt.

4. Judging Process

4.1. Judging Panel: The competition will be judged by a panel of esteemed judges, including:

  • Representative of the Italian Embassy Singapore

  • Representatives from the Diamond Exchange of Singapore and IEG

  • Renowned international jewellery designers or manufacturer

  • Representative of the luxury world of fashion

  • Representative of local or international luxury media

4.2. Criteria: The competition entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity & Originality: Uniqueness and innovative design

  • Relevance to the Theme: How the design interprets the SG60 theme - celebrating the facets of Singapore.

  • Technical Execution: How the design would be executed into a finished piece.

  • Cultural Significance: Incorporating Singaporean and/or Italian cultural elements.

  • Sustainability: Use of ethically sourced materials (wherever possible) and an environmentally friendly design approach.

  • Wearability: The practicality and usability of the design for actual use.

4.3. Selection Process:

  • Round 1: All entries will be reviewed by the judging panel, and a shortlist of 20 (twenty) finalists will be selected.

  • Round 2: The twenty finalists will be further evaluated, to select the winning design. The winner will be announced at the Singapore International Jewellery Exhibition in July 2025.

  • The winning piece will be required to be produced by 9th August, 2025. (manufactured by the winner or by a sponsor)


5. Prize and Recognition

5.1. Grand Prize:

  • The winner will receive a 0.60 carat round-brilliant cut diamond, engraved on the girdle with the winner’s name and ‘SG 60 DES Design Competition Winner.'

  • Return air ticket, 4 nights accommodation and a free booth to showcase the winning design at Vicenza Oro September 2025.

  • The winning design will also be showcased at the Singapore International Jewellery Exhibition 2025.

  • The winner will have the opportunity to collaborate with a prestigious jewellery brand (or obtain sponsorship from an established jeweller) to manufacture the winning piece.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Ownership: Participants retain ownership rights of the submitted designs. However, the organisers may use the design images, both for online and offline promotional purposes for a period of 24 months after the end of the competition without compensating the design owners for such use. 

6.2. Originality & Copyright: All submitted entries must be the original creations of the designer. Any form of plagiarism, submission of previous award-winning designs, or infringement on copyrights of another person’s intellectual property will result in immediate disqualification.

7. Terms and Conditions

7.1. Non-Transferable: Entries submitted are non-transferable and all participants must submit their work only under their own name.

7.2. Disqualification: Any entries that do not comply with the competition rules, including late submissions, or failure to provide required documentation (such as the design brief or material specifications) will likely be disqualified.

7.3. Changes: The competition organizers reserve the right to amend, modify, or cancel any aspect of the competition at any time without prior notice.

7.4. Privacy: By entering the competition, participants agree to the collection and use of their personal information by the organisers, solely for competition purposes, in line with relevant Singapore data protection laws.


8. Event and Award Ceremony

8.1. Winner Announcement: The winner will be announced during the Singapore International Jewellery Exhibition, and awards presentation ceremony will take place on July 11, 2025.

8.2. Display of Designs: Finalists’ designs will be physically or digitally displayed at the Singapore International Jewellery Exhibition, DES pavilion, providing them with valuable international exposure.

9. Miscellaneous

9.1. Language & Communication: All official communication regarding the competition will be conducted in English.

9.2. Force Majeure: The competition organizers will not be responsible for circumstances beyond their control that may affect the competition schedule or its execution or cancellation.

10. Costs of Participation

  • No Participation Fee: Participation in the competition does not require a fee.

  • Travel & Lodging: Winners will be invited to participate in awards activities and press events in Singapore. However, neither the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, Natural Diamond Council, nor IEG shall bear any costs associated with participation, such as: 

    • travel expenses, including airfare and transport.

    • lodging expenses in Singapore or while in transit

11. Changes to Designs or Entry Details

  • No Modifications: Once a design is submitted, no request for alteration or modification to the submission will be entertained. 

  • Finalists' Review: Finalists will be contacted before the announcement of the winning pieces to review/reaffirm their application details.
